Caroline Grace Shegon

class of 2029

From a young age, I have dreamed of riding on a collegiate equestrian team. Horses have always been a constant in my life. Riding quickly became a passion the moment I began formal training at the age of seven. I loved every part of the challenge—the discipline, and especially the bond between horse and rider. Unfortunately, at the age of nine, I suffered a season-ending injury that forced me to step away from riding. During this time, I lost my best friend—an experience that profoundly impacted me. It was through that loss that I realized how much riding meant to me. It wasn't just a sport; it was a source of comfort and identity. More than that, it gave me the purpose to keep going. I returned to riding in the summer of 2022, competing in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association. Being a part of a team helped me renew my confidence and allowed me to reconnect with the sport I love. I switched trainers in early 2025 to the amazing Butch and Patty Campbell, who run and own Campbell Show Horses. I've grown tremendously since starting my training with them, and I don't know where I would be without their guidance. I also have the privilege of training with Casey Deary and Alex Case at Deary Ranch, currently riding "Gunna Bend or Snap," an AQHA futurity show horse. With their mentorship, I've continued to refine and grow my skills, pushing myself further than I ever thought possible. Today, I feel more motivated and inspired than ever, surrounded by incredible trainers and their unending support. I'm also confident in my ability to take my riding career to the next level and excel—not only in the saddle but as a teammate as well.
